Who we are

Platepace is operated by Peter Kagan, trading as Platepace, United Kingdom. We are the service provider. You are the user.

What Platepace is

Platepace is a tracking and calculation tool. It records what you eat, does arithmetic on macros, and shows you history. It identifies food in photos and estimates portions. That is all.

Platepace is not medical, dietetic, or fitness advice. It does not tell you what to eat, whether your targets are sensible, or whether you are on track. It does not diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any condition. For advice on your health, nutrition, or training, consult a qualified professional.

Eligibility

• You must be at least 18 years old.
• You must not be under the care of a clinician for an eating disorder unless that clinician has cleared you to use a food-tracking tool. If in doubt, ask them.
• If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, tracking macros without professional input carries risks. Use at your own discretion and speak to your GP or midwife before changing anything about how you eat.
• You must provide accurate information at sign-up and keep your account secure.

Your account

Sign-in is via magic link to the email you provide. Keep your inbox secure; anyone with access to it can sign in as you. We do not store passwords. You are responsible for what happens under your account.

AI estimates may be wrong

Our photo-to-macro pipeline uses third-party AI (Anthropic Claude, Google Gemini) to identify food and estimate portions. Estimates can be wrong — sometimes significantly. Always review what the AI suggested before committing a log entry. We provide confidence badges and editable drafts; use them.

Acceptable use

• Do not upload photos or submit food names that are illegal, abusive, or contain personal data about other identifiable people.
• Do not reverse-engineer, scrape, or abuse our AI endpoints.
• Do not impersonate others or create accounts on their behalf without authorisation.
• Do not use Platepace to provide regulated medical or dietetic advice to others — coaches who use the platform must hold appropriate qualifications under UK professional standards.

Subscriptions and billing

Paid plans are billed through Stripe. Prices are displayed in the app before you subscribe. You can cancel at any time from your settings; access continues until the end of the billing period you paid for. We offer no automatic refunds for unused time; contact support if you believe you were billed incorrectly.

If your subscription becomes past-due, your account enters a read-only mode until payment is restored. You keep full access to export your data during this period.

Our data, your data

You own the logs you create. We own the software, brand, and aggregate anonymised statistics. Our handling of your data is covered by the Privacy policy and a plain-English summary on the /trust page.

Liability

We provide Platepace "as is". To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for health outcomes resulting from your use of the app, for losses caused by AI estimate errors you did not catch before logging, or for indirect / consequential losses.

Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded.

Termination

You can close your account at any time from settings. We may suspend or close your account if you breach these terms or if continuing to serve you would expose other users to risk. We will tell you the reason unless we are legally prevented from doing so.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. Material changes will be emailed to you at least 14 days before they take effect; you can close your account in that window if you do not agree.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any dispute is subject to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
